Medical bandages can be applied by cleaning the skin, keeping the limb straight, spirally wrapping from the distal end to the proximal end, overlapping the previous layer by half its width, and securing the end.
Before applying a medical elastic bandage, ensure the skin at the dressing site is clean and dry. The presence of sweat, oil, or dirt on the skin surface will reduce the bandage's friction, causing it to slip easily and potentially leading to skin infection. For wounds, professional medical personnel should first disinfect and change the dressing, ensuring it is properly covered before bandaging. If the skin is damp, allow it to air dry in a well-ventilated area or gently pat it dry with sterile gauze. Do not rub vigorously to avoid damaging the skin barrier, creating a good foundation for subsequent bandaging.
